Description: The WPA California Folk Music Project is a multi-format ethnographic field collection that includes sound recordings, still photographs, drawings, and written documents from a variety of European ethnic and English- and Spanish-speaking communities in Northern California. The collection comprises 35 hours of folk music recorded in twelve languages representing numerous ethnic groups and 185 musicians.Describes the Work Projects Administration (WPA) California Folk Music Project, a multi-format ethnographic field collection that includes sound recordings, still photographs, drawings, and written documents from a variety of European ethnic and English- and Spanish-speaking communities in Northern California. Offers access to drawings, photographs, correspondence, and research materials. Contains a list of acknowledgements, reproduction ordering information, and copyright restrictions. Allows users to browse information by ethnic group, musical instrument name, audio title, and performer. Includes information on cowboy songs, Quaker music, and other topics. Links to the home page of the American Memory historical collections at the U.S. Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
