Collection Information
Title: 1907 & 1920 Sanborn Maps of Charlottesville
Alternate Title: Sanborn Maps of Charlottesville
URL: http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/collections/maps/sanborn/ External Link
Description: More than 40 detailed hand-drawn maps produced by the Sanborn Map Company. Browsable via clickable map index or an index of 1920 street and building names. Maps for 1920 currently available online and maps for 1907 in process (Geospatial and Statistical Data Center).

Update (2005): In this enhancement project, two sets of Sanborn maps owned by the University were georeferenced and new finding aids and access tools developed. Previously digitized by an outside service, the maps were re-scanned by UVA's Rare Materials Digital Services to remove spatial distortion created by crowning and other artifacts of the print materials. The maps were then georeferenced to historical aerial photos, and new street name and browsable map indices are being developed.
